Pete & Joy Meister of Dwight enjoy cozy spaces,
inviting atmospheres, friendly people, and delicious
food. Both want to give something back to the
community that they love so much, as well as create
a destination where people can gather and socialize.
Pete, a firefighter in Cullom, IL. for 8 years, is
passionate about helping others and recognizing those
that do. He wanted a restaurant to honor the 343
brave New York City firefighters and paramedics who
lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and to all the
policemen, paramedics and firefighters who have and
continue to serve today. So Station 343 was born.
Complete with a vintage 1917 Seagrave fire truck (that
was used by the Pontiac, IL. Fire Department), Station
343 establishes an atmosphere of a fire station. The
brick walls, wood floor, and rafters are all original to
the building. The glass ‘flame’ wall was removed from
the second floor. The dated signature wall reflects
past employees from as far back as 1897. Reclaimed
wood from the building was used to make the hostess
station, shelving, and the cabinet behind the bar.
Our patrons can feel the nostalgia right as they walk
through the door.
The building, built in 1881, has been home to many
businesses. From Miller Brothers & Sons Men’s
Clothing in 1892-1934 to M & M $.05 to $1.00 store
in 1935. In 1944 it housed Kaiser’s Dime Store until
Dwight Variety Store took reins in 1995, followed by
Main St. Co. in 1998 and now Station 343.
So please, sit back and enjoy yourself! We are happy to
have you here and look forward to serving you!
